Part 1: In which Ron and Draco get into a verbal fight
Draco Malfoy stalked down the hall. He had just been told to report to Dumbledore’s office immediately. He was in a very bad mood and all that he wanted to do was to crawl into a very small hole and never come out. He sighed.
~
"Draco, please sit down. I have some terribly unfortunate news, I’m afraid." The twinkle in Dumbledore’s eye seemed oddly diminished. He motioned for Draco to take a seat across from him. "I have just received and owl from the Ministry with some very unfortunate news. Aurors disrupted a gathering of Death-Eaters last night. Many were killed, however, your father was not. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban. Your mother, driven mad by grief for your father, assaulted the Ministry official who came to tell her this unfortunate news. She has been recently admitted to St. Mungo’s. I am very sorry for this unfortunate loss, Draco. Both of your parents have requested to see you, however." Dumbledore stared at him intently.
"I guess I’ll go pack." Draco stood to leave.
"One moment please, Mr. Malfoy. The Ministry has also suggested that you receive some therapy over the summer holidays to help you through these unfortunate times. They have recommended a Cr. Celkate. I hear that she is rather good."
"There is no way that I am going to see a therapist. I’m not psychotic, you know!"
"We all know that, Draco," Dumbledore said soothingly. "But I for one also know that you have a lot of pent up anger. You can not go out into a world like this with that much anger caused by such unfortunate events, Draco. You will flounder. I must beg you to go see Dr. Celkate. It is for your own good."
"No," Draco said flatly.
"Then, you leave me no choice. You will not be allowed to back onto Hogwarts grounds until you see somebody. Do you understand? I do this for the good of the school as well as for your own good. Please, Draco."
"Fine! You’re al against me! I hate you! Why can’t you just let me be me?!" Draco yelled in frustration.
"This is the anger. We must tell the anger that it is not wanted. This is one time where it is not only okay, but necessary to exclude something. This is what happens during these unfortunate times, Draco."
Draco stormed out of the room.
~
Draco leaned against the wall outside the secret entrance to Dumbledore’s office. He was struggling to control the overwhelming feelings that were surging through him, but even Draco Malfoy can’t do everything. The tears enveloped him, no matter how much he tried to keep them at bay. Draco’s parents had never been particularly lovable, but they were his parents! They had provided for him, but no more.
Draco took a deep breath and stepped away from the wall. His parents were gone. He would just have to except the fact. Draco wiped his eyes, clearing the tears from them, squared his shoulders, and set off down the hall, strutting as if he owned the place. The old Draco Malfoy had returned!
~
Draco needed something to lift his spirits, something to take away the tears that threatened to envelope him again. Then he saw it. Coming down the hall was none other than Ron Weasley.
Draco stopped and settled himself against the wall. He leaned against it and put on his most cocky, arrogant, and irritating expression.
Ron was looking extremely happy for some reason. This made Draco want to retch. He held back the urge. Ron kept walking until he was an arm reach away from Draco. He looked expectantly down at him (Ron was the tallest in their year).
"Weasley," Draco drawled. "Your father consorts with Mudbloods." A smirk played at the corners of his mouth.
"I know, Malfoy. In fact, Hermione has just agreed to marry me. I was just an my to owl Mum and Dad." The smile on his face grew broader.
Draco hid his disappointment.
"Yea, well, did you get the ring out of a Cracker Jack box, Weasle? You’re to poor to afford a real ring."
"Actually, Malfoy, it’s a family heirloom. My mum’s dad gave it to her mum. Now, it’s my turn. I’m the first one to get married, you know."
Draco clenched his teeth in frustration.
"Your mother is pudgy!" Draco had a look of triumph on his face.
"I know." Ron took a step closer to Draco and whispered, "Between you and me, she could use to go on diet, but we took a unanimous vote and it was decided to let her be. She is happy and that is what is important. Don’t you agree, Malfoy?"
The look of triumph had disappeared on Draco’s face and he stormed down the hall.
"Cheerio, Malfoy!"
