Name: Brandon "Bran" Stark
Age: At the beginning of A Game of Thrones, Bran is 7. He is at least 8 by the end of A Storm of Swords.
Appearance: Auburn hair like his mother.
Family: House Stark of Winterfell (rough family tree). Bran is one of the younger children of Catelyn Tully and Eddard Stark. He has three older siblings, Robb, Sansa, and Arya; and one younger brother, Rickon. Bran also counts Jon Snow (who is said to be Eddard's bastard son) as his favorite sibling.
His "fall": Bran was raised at the seat of House Stark, Winterfell which is located in the North. He likes listening to stories, especially ones about knights because he wants to be a knight one day when his brother, Robb, is Lord of Winterfell. Bran also likes to climb things--trees, buildings, anything. When King Robert I Baratheon comes to Winterfell to make Eddard "Ned" Stark his Hand, Bran catches Robert's wife, Queen Cersei, having relations with another man while he is climbing. The man turns out to be Ser Jaime Lannister, Cersei's brother, who throws Bran from the tower, intending to kill him. But Bran does not die, while unconscious he dreams of a three-eyed crow, who teaches him to see with a third eye, and insists Bran must live because "winter is coming." (When Bran awakes he immediately names his pet direwolf Summer.) After his near-death experience, he finds that he no longer has use of his legs and has to be carried around in a basket by a gentle stableboy (who is probably part giant) called Hodor.
His powers: After his dream of the three-eyed crow, Bran finds himself in Summer's body when he dreams. But he thinks they are just dreams until the arrival of Meera and Jojen Reed of Greywater Watch. Jojen tells Bran that he too was visited by the crow and gifted with the ability to see the future in his dreams. Under Jojen's guidance, Bran learns to enter Summer's body at will, and finally masters controlling Summer when Jon Snow's life is threatened. However, in order for Bran to learn more he must go to find the crow beyond the Wall. Meera, Jojen, Hodor and Summer accompany Bran on his journey.
Name: Summer
Age: Just born at beginning of A Game of Thrones.
Appearance: Gray fur, yellow eyes "like gold".
Family: Summer has five siblings called Grey Wind, Lady, Nymeria, Shaggydog and Ghost, though he knows them by their smell not names. Their mother died just before giving birth.
Other: Summer is not as large as his siblings, but Bran considers him the smartest. He doesn't like chasing sticks (GoT 78).
